An Update
More of an email than an article
Hey folks,
Just a few housekeeping items today:
I have a new piece in Saddle Mountain Post about the influence of the 90s on country music. It’s long and well-reported if I do say so myself. I spoke with music critic Rob Harvilla, underground legend Joshua Hedley, podcaster Andrew Rasta, emerging classic country artist Dzaki Sukarno and Ameripolitan Award Winner Kaitlin Butts for the piece.
This one was hard to write as I have strong personal feelings about this music. While hints of my opinions come through, I worked hard to keep that in check, and the process of researching nostalgia, the in-depth interviews and discussions I had with Rasta, my lovely wife and several others helped sharpen this feature into something I’m proud to promote. I hope you like it — read it and leave some comments.
Thanks to Dave from Country Music Dads and my lovely wife for the editing help. The guidance was key.My CMA Picks: Just kidding. I don’t have picks, but it would be cool to see Morgan Wallen not win. But my favorite CMA memory will always be Sturgill busking outside with his Grammy.
Should I start a true subscription? After 11 months of doing this, I think it will stick. I’m considering starting a paid section — something weekly that would make it interesting and fun. I’m just not sure what it would be. I’d also like to gauge the interest of my readers to see if it’s worth the time — yours and mine.
Upcoming posts: Later this week, I’ll post a rant about stage antics, and next Tuesday, I’ll be back with the latest edition of New Music Tuesday.
Thanks,
Donnie
